Having easy access to toilets is a basic human right, but for people with disabilities, access is a huge and common problem. Currently, there are no laws which regulate accessible facilities for exclusive use by disabled people. Unlike Disability Parking, which requires a permit and you can be fined for using it Inappropriately no such thing exists for disabled toilet access, but if something isn’t illegal to do, is it socially acceptable? Of course, the quick and proper use of an accessible toilet by an able-bodied person, when the other options are not available, is ok. Unfortunately misuse and abuse of the facilities is a big issue. Able-bodied people often interpret the sign outside the accessible toilet indicates that these toilets are for everyone, and anyone has the right to use it. This is not ok; it is a convenient rephrasing and the perfect defensive explanation. Female, male and non-gender toilets are widely available for able-bodied people, with multiple cubicles to use. Whilst there is only one option for people with disabilities! We have started a campaign to educate the general public and make a change for people affected by disabilities!
